Why did this clip move me? Why is it worth your time?

As my second year of teaching came to a close, I reflected on my successes and failures of my two years.

I have been very successful in teaching the fundamentals of Algebra, Geometry, and Probability and Statistics, but as my second year ends I AGAIN ask myself, “How much of this way of teaching numeracy should be our focus? Is this what the United States education system and my school district should be investing so much time and resources into?”

Sir Ken Robinson speaks to this question during the presentation …

Why did this clip move me? Why is it worth your time?

Still one of the most influential presentations I have ever seen. Using alarming stats, Karl Fisch argues that American education needs to change with the times, or we will be passed by very soon.

My New Media Favs – A 2020 Vision

Why did this clip move me? Why is it worth your time?

I have been serving on my district’s technology committee for about seven months. One of our “tasks” is to write a board report which gives our school board an overview of how technology is integrated into our classes. The board report is supposed to provide suggestions as to how education technology could enhance the teaching and learning that goes on in our district right now and in the future.

I have been trying to find a way to help the committee to think years ahead, instead of just reacting to the present. If we can plan ahead, we can start to prepare and set resources aside for the education technology that will be in-demand in 2010 and beyond. This video does a great job capturing possible technologies that could be heading our way.

A New Category – My New Media Favs

April 10th, 2008 · No Comments

By participating in my PLE (Personal Learning Environment) this year, I have learned to think differently about my school, my classroom, and myself. Each week or so I find a great new movie that really captures the spirit of why I love this new School 2.0 movement.

After participating for a year now, I have started to compile a ton of web media that really captures what I believe teaching is all about.

I want an easy way to share this information with the world

from advanced web users to beginners who are testing the waters. I first thought about using a wiki and just linking to it from this blog, but then I decided to keep everything on this blog. I made a new sub category under school 2.0 in which I will write mini-posts with embedded media or links included. This way all of my favorites are easy to find for all of my readers and fellow learners.

I promise to only mini-post about the best of the best new media clips that I have viewed. I will include a short description about why the clip moved me and why it is worth the time.

Look for the first New Media Favs mini-post soon.
